Rachuli Lori Secures Geographical Indication Status
The Geographical Indication (GI) for Rachuli Lori has now been officially registered by Sakpatenti, the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Following the registration of GI for Kakhuri Shashkhi. These are the first meat products in Georgia to receive GI status, a designation that protects their name and origin, supporting authenticity and quality.
With this recognition, Kakhuri Shashkhi and Rachuli Lori join a growing list of GI products. These are various types of cheese, regional honeys, Georgian Highland beer, new potatoes from Bolnisi, Tkemali, apple from Gori, tea from the Tkibuli Mountains, and other unique products that are recognized and valued for their authenticity and geographic origin.
The achievement is a result of nearly three years work through close collaboration between the ALCP2 program, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, local producers in Racha, and the SECO-financed Georgian-Swiss Intellectual Property (GESIP) Project, implemented by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI).
The ALCP2 implemented by Mercy Corps Georgia, is funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) in cooperation with the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and Sweden.
