Promoting Inclusion: The GBU Unites Beekeepers in Kvemo Kartli
The GBU has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the inclusion of ethnic minority beekeepers across Georgia, ensuring they have access to information, innovative tools, and opportunities for growth.
The Georgian Beekeepers Union (GBU) recently hosted a meeting in Marneuli, bringing together thirty ethnic Azerbaijani beekeepers from the Kvemo Kartli region. The event focused on introducing a new manual for beekeepers, Countering the Impact of Climate Change on Beekeeping in Georgia, along with practical solutions such as climate-adapted beehives and climate-smart beeswax.
As many Azerbaijani beekeepers do not speak Georgian, they can easily miss new products and information available in the mainstream market. The meeting aimed to bridge this gap by providing accessible, practical knowledge.
During the event, Aleko Papava and Islam Mamedovi, a local producer of climate-smart beeswax, presented the union’s mission and services. They invited participants to join the GBU and elect representatives to its core team. The proposal was met with immediate support, leading to the creation of a dedicated WhatsApp group to connect beekeepers from Kvemo Kartli and facilitate ongoing information exchange.
The Georgian Beekeepers Union is facilitated by the ALCP2 programme, implemented by Mercy Corps Georgia. The ALCP2 is funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) in collaboration with the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and Sweden.
