Combatting Cold Stress

ALCP2 farmer research highlighted the increasing environmental stress on livestock due to climate change, including prolonged heat, drought, and sudden drops in temperature. These conditions reduce pasture quality, weaken animals' immune systems, and make them more susceptible to parasites and infections like mastitis, leading to decreased milk yield and live weight gain.

In December 2023, Roki Ltd, a leading veterinary inputs company, launched their Cold Stress Package. This initiative is part of five product packages targeting heat stress, mastitis, reduced productivity, and immunity boosting and are complemented with training resources for farmers.

The campaign reached over 134,000 people, with 2,394 engagements and over 355,000 video views. Enquiries ranged from product pricing and availability to usage and dosage.

The foundation product in all these packages is Rumifos, a domestically produced prebiotic designed to address digestive and stress-related issues. When combined with other veterinary inputs, Roki claims that farmers can see up to a 15% increase in milk yield and a 20% boost in live weight gain.

Roki LTD is facilitated by the ALCP2 programme, implemented by Mercy Corps Georgia. The ALCP2 is funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) in collaboration with the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and Sweden.
